We are 4A Games – a multinational game development studio with offices in Malta and Ukraine. In our games, we focus on creating deep memorable experiences. The studio was founded in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2005 by a passionate team of game industry veterans with the goal of creating AAA-quality games. In 2014, the studio moved its headquarters, along with over 50 team members and their families, from Ukraine to the island of Malta.
Our projects so far include Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Metro Redux, Arktika. 1, and, our most recent release, Metro Exodus.
For which tasks (responsibilities)?
We are seeking an experienced Technical Designer to expand and improve on our gameplay mechanics such as weapons, vehicles, player locomotion, etc.
Create and integrate gameplay mechanics.
Prototype and iterate on gameplay system improvements.
Implement mechanics/features directly in-engine using existing visual scripting tools.
Cooperate with other departments on implementation where necessary.
Create design and technical documentation on gameplay mechanics.
Integrate new gameplay mechanics into existing schemes while retaining full functionality.
Use in-house technology (4A Games Engine) for game creation.
Participate in toolkit improvement process while working on the game.
What kind of professional are we looking for?
+ 5 years of experience in working for other game companies in a similar design position.
Good command of one or more existing game engines – UE4, CryEngine, etc.
Ability to quickly and sufficiently document and communicate an idea in writing or speech.
Ability to carry an idea from the conceptual phase to the finished illustration and an understanding of translating these ideas to real-time game content.
Technical understanding of the way the existing gameplay mechanics work and interact with each other.
Self-criticism and ability to accept criticism from other people. Open mindedness towards colleagues’ ideas. The more feedback you are ready to take, the better for the game.
Good English.
Collaborative team player.
Ability to learn and master new instruments.
At least 5 years of gaming experience (playing).
Preference – experience with Exodus SDK.
